Water "pot" of ivy placed in the top of the shape (where the ivy vines originate from). Thoroughly water regularly. The foam will only hold a certain amount of water, making it difficult to over water this plant. Gently rinse the entire shape once a week. |

A cool area with good air circulation is best. In winter, an unheated room is ideal. |

These animals are made of a special foam developed by the Smithers Oasis company, makers of Oasis ® Floral Foam. The foam has large air pockets that allow for a proper balance between water holding and aeration needed to sustain plants. The foam is also structurally stronger than regular floral foam, allowing the animal to last for a long time. The foam is coated with a layer of green moss to give it the traditional look of a mossed animal shape. A pot of ivy (including the soil) is placed in a hole on the top of the shape and the ivy vines are then pinned to the shape. Over time these vines will root into the foam.
Since these shapes are made of unreinforced foam, never pick up the appendages as they may break off (but can be easily glued back on). These foam shapes will do much better inside of a building than traditional moss shapes, which have a tendency to rot quickly. Fungus gnats are also much less likely to be attracted to the foam shapes than traditional moss shapes. |
